COMRIE TURNS 60, HAPPY BIRTHDAY COMRIE
We are very proud to be celebrating Comrie’s 60th year of trading, 1965 – 2025. Set up originally by Harry Greig at his home address in Comrie Close, Coventry.
Harry liked the name as it also celebrated his Scottish roots with his father, William having operated mechanical one arm slot machines in sweet shop in Glasgow years before they relocated to Coventry.
Comrie was founded to supply independent pubs and social clubs with fruit machines, pool tables and jukeboxes. Over the years Harry’s wife June and his brother Philip joined the company and June became the only lady in the UK at the time to hold a Gambling Commission licence.
Technology changed with vinyl jukeboxes becoming CD and then onto digital however, the core values of Comrie remain unchanged, supplying quality machines with first class friendly service to independent pubs and clubs has been at the heart of the company for all the years.
After Harrys passing in 2001 his son Mark ran the business with his mum, June. As Comrie expanded, Jason joined the team, from the banking industry, as one of Comrie’s Directors who in turn introduced his two cousins Justin and Matt and then his brother-in-law, Paul.
Mark’s wife Cheryl joined the family business a few years later, who, with her Coventry University business background brought the back-office operations into the 21st Century. Once June retired Jane joined the team and as we always like to ensure all our staff feel part of the family, Jane was appointed not only as Officer Manager but Office Wifey. Amanda also joined us and has proven invaluable with figure work and has made the team complete.
With 70% of businesses failing before their 10th year anniversary, to make 60 years is a big achievement we decided to mark the occasion with an office party, with June and Philip joining us talking about past and present. We have some lovely photos to mark the occasion.
The hospitality landscape is definitely changing but Comrie intends to continue supplying our valued customers for many more years to come. We truly are a family business who takes a lot of pride in our work. What a better way to celebrate than with cake!
